Photo Shanghai art fair
Private museums and art fairs are increasing their presence in China with rapid pace to show and educate the Chinese audience of the emerging Chinese and foreign art and exhibit the creative mind of many artists. The early days of cynical realism is over and new breed of artists are coming forward. One strong media is photography. A few months ago 25,000 visitors came to an inaugural Photo Shanghai fair and the response was unprecedented for the medium. Many galleries responded with positive reactions and will return next year. A high profile talks programme ran throughout the course of the fair led by world renowned experts in their field. Another attraction was the announcement of the winner of the newly formed Neptune Photography contest, sponsored by Maserati. With such promotion and high profile launch resulted to bring the fair to the right level of attention.
MIA (Milan Image Art) had also it first fair in Asia, selecting Singapore last October. The fair was good but needed more promotion in order to bring the crowd. I am sure this will happen next year.
