Mao Yan exhibits at Pace, Beijing
Pace in Beijing is presenting the solo exhibition of China’s most influential portrait artist Mao Yan. This is the first exhibition of the artist since he representation by Pace Beijing.
Mao Yan (b 1968) from Hunan Province is considered as one of China’s outstanding contemporary artists. His grey tones with delicate moulding brushstrokes allow the work to retain most details and vitality, whether displayed under any lightning. Primarily portraits art that reveals a momentary glory of peace and creates an interest to the audience through a honest expression without any metaphor. The surrounding is attracted by a certain moment in memory and weakens the substance of the character. The well known “Thomas series” continues since late 1990’s, but the show reveals a large scale painting of a female body for the first time. His personal talent and feelings are felt through his spirit and dim memory presented by the light of human soul that show the figure that is calm and peaceful.
A truly exceptional artist.
